The Staff Selection Commission (SSC), under the Government of India, has announced the commencement of the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL 10+2) Examination for the year 2023-24. This prestigious examination is scheduled to be held in August 2023. It offers a wonderful opportunity for candidates to secure positions such as Postal Assistants/Sorting Assistants, Data Entry Operators (DEO), and Lower Divisional Clerks (LDC)/Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) in various Ministries/Departments/Offices of the Government of India. Pay Scales

To entice talented individuals, the SSC CHSL 2023 offers attractive pay scales based on the respective positions:

  • Postal Assistant (PA) / Sorting Assistant (SA) Scale of Pay: Pay Level-2 (₹ 19,900 – 63,200)
  • Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) Scale of Pay: Pay Level-4 (₹ 25,500 – 81,100)
  • Data Entry Operator (DEO) Scale of Pay: Pay Level-4 (₹ 25,500 – 81,100)
  • Data Entry Operator (DEO), Grade ‘A’ Scale of Pay: Pay Level-4 (₹ 25,500 – 81,100)

Age Limit

The age criteria for SSC CHSL 2023 are as follows:

  • Applicants must be between 18 to 27 years old as of 1st August 2023.
  • Candidates born between 02-08-1996 and 01-08-2005 are eligible to apply.
  • Age relaxation is applicable, with 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and an additional 10 years for PwBD candidates.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the positions of LDC/JSA, PA/SA, and DEO, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of Matric with 12th class standard or an equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.

For the post of DEO in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG), the following additional requirement applies:

  • Matriculation with 12th class pass in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized board or equivalent.

Selection Process

The selection process for SSC CHSL 2023 consists of three stages:

  1. Tier-I Computer Based Examination (Objective Type): This stage has a duration of 60 minutes and is divided into four parts: English Language (Basic Knowledge), General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill), and General Awareness. Each part carries 50 marks.
  2. Tier-II Paper (Descriptive): In this stage, candidates must complete a descriptive paper of 100 marks within one hour. The paper evaluates the writing skills of the candidates, assessing their ability to write an essay of 200-250 words and a letter/application of approximately 150-200 words. The minimum qualifying marks for Tier-II are 33 percent. The paper can be written in either Hindi or English, but a combination of both languages will not be evaluated.
  3. Tier-III Examination (Skill Test/Typing Test): The final stage of the examination is a skill test/typing test, which is of qualifying nature. The score obtained by candidates in Tier-I and Tier-II will determine the final merit.

Skill Test for Data Entry Operator:

  • Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (eight thousand) key depressions per hour on a computer.
  • For the post of Data Entry Operator in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG), a speed test of not less than 15,000 key depressions per hour for data entry work will be conducted.

  • SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen/All Women candidates: Nil
